Michael's Sandwich Shop is a longstanding deli and sandwich spot tucked in a quiet corner of Woodlyn, PA, serving the local community since the late 1970s. Its focus is clearly on hearty, classic sandwiches that locals rely on for quick, satisfying meals—whether to grab on a lunch break, pick up a casual dinner, or order catering for gatherings.

The shop presents a straightforward, no-frills atmosphere that feels familiar, almost like stepping into a longtime neighborhood staple where regulars are known by name. It’s the kind of place where the counter staff greets you warmly and moves quickly, making it convenient for those on the go or anyone craving their famously large hoagies and cheesesteaks.

Michael’s is best known for its sizeable, well-built sandwiches like the Philly cheesesteak and Italian hoagie, which stand out because the bread is sturdy enough to hold generous fillings without turning soggy. For people who favor a classic deli experience—think tender steak, rich melted cheeses, and well-balanced toppings like roasted peppers or cheese wiz—this shop hits the right notes. The menu stretches beyond sandwiches to include offerings like chicken tenders and a variety of loaded fries that can satisfy different cravings.

This spot appeals especially to those who appreciate decades of consistency. Customers mention returning for decades, which speaks to how Michael’s fits into the fabric of the neighborhood’s dining routine. It’s not a flashy eatery but one that delivers solid, well-executed sandwiches with quick service and a friendly vibe. You’ll find it busiest around lunchtime and early evenings when locals swing by to grab a familiar meal.

While the seating and ambiance are utilitarian rather than trendy, that simplicity has a charm of its own—it’s about the food and the people behind it. Those who visit often remark on the genuine, welcoming presence of the owners and staff, making the experience feel personal. This is a spot where longtime customers blend with first-timers curious about classic Pennsylvania deli sandwiches.

In summary, Michael’s Sandwich Shop is best for anyone who wants a filling, straightforward deli sandwich served promptly in a friendly, down-to-earth setting. If you’re passing through Woodlyn or live nearby and enjoy reliable, generously portioned hoagies and cheesesteaks, this place offers exactly that kind of uncomplicated comfort food with a local touch.

The person running the cashier was extremely nice and welcoming, and my food came out really quickly. This was one of the best cheese steaks i’ve had, it was stupendous. I’m definitely coming back for more.

Everytime I'm in town I go to Mike's. I have known Mike from the first opening day in 1977. He and his beautiful wife are great people and have been making fantastic cheesesteaks and hoagies. I'm so sorry to hear that the doors will be closing here shortly. I wish Mike and his beautiful wife and family and awesome retirement Great You're good people. Tucked away at 1300 Jefferson Ave in Woodlyn, Mike's Sandwich Shop is a quaint, family-owned gem worth visiting, especially for those who prefer to support small businesses. Their cheesesteak sandwich is a standout — the bread holds up well, never getting soggy, while the steak is both flavorful and tender, perfectly complemented by American cheese and peppers. Though the fries didn't quite hit the mark, the star of the show is undoubtedly the steak sandwich. It’s a genuine escape from the usual tourist traps. Note that parking can be a bit tricky, so plan your visit with some extra time. I'm already looking forward to trying other items on the menu during my next visit, and I can see why Mike's has garnered such high praise!

I can only review their Italian hoagies. I live about an hour and a half away and always pick up a few for when I travel home after visiting family. I've never seen a better travel wrapped hoagie in my life. I prefer stringy onions rather than diced, but it takes away nothing from the sandwich. I get steaks from elsewhere, but I've seen them from here and they look great. I just don't know how they'd travel so I don't get them. Id kill to have a place like this near me. Easy on/off from 476 which is also a plus. Photos prob out of order, but it's wrapped in 4 diff components. They put veggies on top, I like them tucked under meat. Now I'm hungry.

I have traveled the country and have been to a lot of different cities and honestly Philadelphia I call America's toilet. Even cheesesteaks taste like garbage there. This is the only place that makes a good cheesecake and I mean it is great. This cheesesteak with a drink was and it was cut up into four pieces. It was delicious. When I pass through the miserable town of Philadelphia at least I know a good place to get a cheesesteak. I recommend them to anyone
